THL stands for Travel, Help, Learn. Here’s why it’s the name of my business. I’m a passionate believer that travel broadens one’s horizons, and I seek to see as much of the world as I can. As a graphic designer, I find no better stimulus to my creativity than our world. The incredible depth of cultures, the unbelievably diverse landscapes, the endless horizons and soaring peaks, the smells, sounds and colours of a place – all serve to highten the senses. Many people have to be creative thinkers just to provide food for their family. Luckily I don’t have that pressure, and realise the privileged life I have. So, because of this, I wish to help those that are less fortunate, and a percentage of my annual profits are given to a charity. Currently it is The Kabanda Trust. Click here to find out why, and here to go to their website. If we don’t continue to learn as a person, it is my belief that we grow stale as a person. Helping those that need help also leads us to learn. Realising how much even the smallest of gestures can mean – a simple smile, doing the shopping for an elderly neighbour, or giving a small amount of money to a developing country – is, I find, a very humbling experience. I have certainly learnt more about myself through giving than through what I have been given. Having THL as my business name serves as a daily reminder to me of how I should behave and of life’s bigger picture.
The Kabanda Trust is a charity based in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, which provides support to several schools in Uganda. I got involved in 2006 through a local link with my home town, Uttoxeter, and have been out to Uganda several times to see how The Trust helps. The situation there is pretty desperate, and The Trust offers education and healthcare help to over 500 children and their communities. By choosing THL as your design specialists, you will be helping The Trust, as I will give a percentage of my annual profit to them this year. Every penny given goes straight to source. Here is a brief list of some of the costs: * • £2 feeds one child for a whole month. * • £15 provides a child with a bed in the boarding house for a month. * • £25 pays for the school nurse for one month. * • £30 pays a teachers wage for one month. As you can see, a little goes a long way. Click here to go to The Kabanda Trust home page and to find out more.
