Earlier this year my grandmother was moved to bradwell hall for a short stay while her previous home was refurbished. We were not happy with the staff, their manner, their cleanliness, the room was dirty , the bed was dirty, the bedding was ripped, the pillows were stained, the water used for her peg feed was taken from the ensuite toilet not a jug of water. We had an agreement that she should be checked every hour, we were there on various occasions for four hours and no'one came in to check her, then the following day the folder with check times and signatures had been filled in to say they had been in. My nan sadly passed away while she was at bradwell hall. The way in which we found out topped it all off really. My mum recieved a phone call from a staff nurse at 10:00am on her home phone to say my nan wasn't well and could we go in. We went straight away. We went into my nan's room as usual, started to talk to her and got no reply. My nan had passed away and no'one had been waiting to tell us the news, we had to work it out for ourselves. I watched my mum try to find a pulse and feel if my nan was breathing. It was terrible to see my mum do these things. She had to go and fetch the staff nurse from her office to come and confirm what had happened. She then proceeded to tell us that my nan had passed away at 8:00am that morning. She had not tried to ring my mum at home until 10:00am, my mum had been in all morning. The staff nurse said that she had called my mum's mobile number and left a message earlier and when she still hadn't had a replay by 10:00 she thought she would try the home number. We actually couldn't believe what we were hearing. She had left it so long when we had both been in the house all morning and could have got there sooner. At no point did anyone apologise for the delay or try to explain why no'one had tried the home number which was on my nan's file as first point of contact. At no point did anyone apologise that no'one came to tell us the news when we arrived to save the ordeal of realising what had happened by checking to see if we could feel her breath and finding she had died. This loss of a dearly loved relative is very upsetting at any time and any situation but it was made a hundred more times distressing by the way we found out. It was disrespectful to everyone involved. It should not happen like that. I hope no'one else experiences this.

My father is at Bradwell Hall Nursing home now. On two occasions now he has been admitted to hospital and the nursing home did not even call to say he was ill. My son of 15 visited today what would he have been told if his Grandad was in hospital at the time. Other than that he is happy and well fed. he could do with more encouragement to be independant as he can self care he just needs reminding as him short term memory has gone. Visited today and his mobile phone is missing. Dare I pay the line rental for him to have a landline or will I get a hugh bill for it..... Need to see If they can step back and handle this one or are we going to have to look at alternative homes. I know there busy I know they do a hard job but bit but what next will we get told when he is ill, what happens if he doesn't recover
